Description

The IMPACT series from Gefran are high-temperature pressure transmitters (up to 350°C) that operate without transmission fluid. Medium pressure is transmitted directly to the sensitive silicon element via a thick diaphragm. Strain is measured by a micro-machined silicon structure (MEMS) using the piezoresistive principle. IMPACT is Gefran™’s exclusive series of high-temperature pressure sensors employing this technology. A key feature of IMPACT sensors is the absence of any transmission fluid. The sensitive element, located directly behind the contact membrane, is made of silicon using advanced microprocessing techniques. The microstructure includes the measurement membrane and piezoresistors. The low deflection requirement of the sensitive element allows for very robust mechanics, and the process contact membrane can be up to 15 times thicker than those used in traditional melt sensors.
